ATCS Celebrates Silver Jubilee
Australian Tamil Cultural Society (ATCS) celebrated its silver jubilee on 29 April 2017. The silver jubilee celebration was presided over by Deputy Chief Minister of ACT Hon Yvette Berry MLA; Michael Pettersson, MLA as the representative for the Chief Minister of ACT, Mr. Sonal Bajaj from the High Commission of India in Australia, Mr. Amardeep Singh, President FINACT, Mr. Krishna Nadimpalli from Telugu Association of Canberra and Mr. Ravi.

The dignitaries mentioned in their speeches that they held ATCS in high esteem. They mentioned that it was highly encouraging to see that ATCS was able to celebrate and teach the Indian Tamil cultural values to the next generation.

The function was well attended by over 200 members of the Tamil society. These included some of the founding members as well as those who have just come into Australia. ATCS was founded 25 years ago with a small group of people by Dr. Palaniappan Muthiah. The main purpose of the organisation is to preserve, perpetuate and propagate the heritage of the Indian Tamil speaking population, to assist and promote literary, cultural, educational, social, health and community activities of the people of Tamil origin. From humble beginnings ATCS has truly spread its wings with over 200 members, a dedicated Tamil school by the name of Chennai Tamil School with over 70 enrolments and participation in multicultural and sports events.

During the silver jubilee function, the audience heard from past and present members the successes and challenges faced by ATCS. There were many light hearted moments when the members were shown glimpses of the dance/drama shows, or anecdotes from the past performances. The evening was interspersed with classical, semi classical and karaoke performances by children and adults. Students of the Chennai Tamil School sang Vande Mataram in Tamil which was written by Subramanyam Bharathi. Now and then, a trivia was asked of the audience which kept everyone entertained. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the sports competition from the ATCS sports day held on 1 April.

Members of the current committee cut a silver jubilee cake followed by a sumptuous three course dinner. The function concluded with a vote of thanks to all members past and present and the hardworking volunteers who once again managed to put a wonderful show.
Regards
Ravi

Cricket Coordination Committee Meeting - Sun 28 May
Cricket Coordination Committee (CCC) works on preparation, management of ongoing tournament and considers all aspects of feedback it receives through different channels. We want to become an organisation that learns from its experiences and from others’ feedback and suggestions, capitalising on the lessons of successes and failures to improve our performance every year. Continuous improvement is our collective approach in which all captains, managers and FINACT's executive committee members seek out, support and implement changes to make the tournament better, bigger and cost-effective, when budget is significantly constrained. Through making better use of our own and others’ expertise we can make a significant difference to our tournament’s quality, cost-effectiveness and impact.
We strive to strengthen our collective ability to learn and to reap and apply the benefits of that listening, learning, and building capacity and utilising feedback mechanisms into continuous improvements. In this context, we had a very good and fruitful meeting on Saturday 18 March as planned.
If you are also interested in participating in the next meeting of Cricket Coordination Committee, you are most welcome. We appreciate your valuable suggestions for the tournament.
You can help us as:
- an adviser - with your constructive advice/suggestions
- a volunteer - lots of opportunities before, during and after each match
- a sport administrator - being a part of decision-making body that is CCC
- a sponsor for the tournament - adopt a team or claim the title of the tournament
We appreciate and welcome all levels of interest in sponsoring our events. Contact us at [email protected]

Sponsorship Appreciated for FINACT Events
We understand that one of the main reasons to sponsor a tournament could be to promote one’s business and generate goodwill in the community. Sponsoring the FINACT T-20 Cricket Tournament will give you brand recognition among the fastest-growing community group of Indians in the ACT and increase sales or traffic to sponsor’s website through their banner on our website (www.finact.net.au).
Indians are the fastest growing population in Australia. This has resulted in increased air traffic between India and Australia; increased telecommunication; and enhanced trade and cultural ties. Players and their supporters make playing cricket a fiercely competitive and memorable event. They will promote the game and use your services to show their appreciation.
In addition to providing an excellent opportunity to connect with the Indian sub-continent communities, the FINACT T-20 Cricket Tournament sponsorship will:
- enable them to reach out to wider community groups in ACT and surrounds
- fulfil their business objectives and attract sizeable potential customers
- provide a lasting impression of their business
- promote sports and physical activities in the community
- motivate and assist young players participating in the tournament
- attract favourable feedback from organisers and media partners
- generate great feel-good stories in Indian community and back to India and neighbouring countries and
- fulfil sponsor’s corporate and social responsibilities
If you are willing to or interested in sponsoring our events, please contact us soon.
