FINACT’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2014 was held on 13 July at Gungahlin Community Centre. The general council members at the AGM recognised the contributions of previous years Executive Committee and bid them a farewell with a thanking note. During the AGM, FINACT opened its doors to two new member organizations – Mandhir Music School and Canberra Multicultural Artists Association.
One of the agenda of the AGM was the election of Executive Committee members for FY 2014-15 and the Returning Officer, Mr. Eswar Chalam carried out the election process in a professional manner.
The following members were elected unanimously for the new Executive Committee by the General Council in the AGM:

India's Independence Day Celebrations
On the occasion of the 67th Anniversary of India’s Independence a Flag Hoisting Ceremony will be held at the High Commission of India, 3 Moonah Place Yarralumla on Friday the 15th August, 2014 at 9.00AM. All members of the Indian community are cordially invited to attend and are requested to be present at the Chancery by 8.45AM.

Cricket Tournament - FINACT T-20 in Oct-Nov 2014
For last 3 years, FINACT T-20 tournament has been FINACT’s signature event, well accepted by all Indian communities and popularity overgrowing to wider Australian communities. Due to the ICC world cup 2015 scheduled for Feb – March 2015, FINACT has decided to bring forward FINACT’s T-20 tournament schedule to avoid clashes with ICC World Cup schedules.
FINACT’s fourth annual T-20 tournament is scheduled to start on 12 October and finals on 9 November 2014. To spice it up, the best players of the tournament will have an opportunity to represent India during the first ever ACT Cricket Mini World Cup.
FINACT is inviting the member associations to send their expression of interest and team nominations to FINACT by 22 August 2014. The draws will be held by the Indian High Commissioner on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanthi, 2 October.
FINACT is also actively seeking sponsorships for the T-20 Tournament. Please provide your suggestions and/or be a sponsor for the most successful Indian community cricket event in the ACT.

ACT Mini World Cup - Nov-Dec 2014
FINACT in association with ACT Cricket and ACT Sports are the prime organisers of first ever ACT Cricket Mini World Cup. The mini world cup is scheduled for November – December 2014, following FINACT’s T-20 tournament.
The best players of FINACT T-20 tournament will be selected to represent India at the ACT World Cup, so get competitive, tune up your skills and register your team for FINACT T-20 tournament.

Calling for Nominations for the 2014 Multicultural Awards
Nominations for the ACT Government’s Multicultural Awards are now being sought to shine a light on individuals and organisations which actively support and promote multiculturalism in Canberra.
The awards acknowledge the outstanding contributions of individuals or organisations that have actively supported cultural diversity and made a real impact in promoting community harmony.
Now in their fourth year, the seven award categories include: ACT Multicultural Advocate of the Year Award; Business Employer of the Year Award; Community Organisation of the Year Award; Education Award; Media Award; Public Sector Award; Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award.

FINACT Supports Teej Celebrations
The women council of GOPIO CANBERRA Inc is facilitating Teej celebrations at the Theo Notarus Multicultural Centre on Sun 3 August 2014 starting from 5:00pm.
We cordially invite you to participate in the Teej celebrations. First half of the program up to 6.30 pm is exclusively for girls and women to celebrate Teej by enjoying songs, dances and fun activities.
Ladies dress code : Red or Green shades.
Your entire family is welcome to attend. The delicious panipuri and Indian snacks are on sale throughout up to interval. The second half of the program includes professional dances, dinner and dance on floor, with celebrations concluding at 9pm.
