Federation of Indian Associations of ACT (FINACT) wishes you all a very Happy New Year 2015.
The year 2014 was extremely exciting in terms of promoting the community harmony in ACT. Many more events are happening in coming weeks. FINACT is organising ACT Mini Cricket World Cup in February 2015 in association with Cricket ACT and ICC world Cup organisers. FINACT encourages all member associations to actively participate in ACT Multicultural festival and other association’s activities. FINACT is organising an Indian Community Harmony Day to foster networking for community leaders from various communities in ACT with Ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators, MLAs, politicians and diplomats. FINACT is also coordinating with all member associations and interest groups to pursue with the ACT Government to allocate land for a Hindu Temple and India Centre in Gungahlin Region.

Farewell to the High Commissioner of India, HE Mr Biren Nanda
FINACT organised a farewell reception of His Excellency Mr Biren Nanda and Mrs Rukmini Nanda on Sunday, 18 January 2015. Prominent leaders and members of the Indian community participated in the event and shared their experience with the High Commissioner.
Mr Nanda was remembered as a man of vision and his initiatives will take the India – Australia relationships into a new era. His achievements on many issues were remembered particularly the Uranium deal signed as a landmark for Indian energy sector. A successful visit of Indian Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi to Australia and addressing both houses of the Australian Parliament, organising Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Sydney and created many more opportunities to promote business between both nations.

ICC World Cup Trophy Tour
Canberra played host to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Trophy Tour from 12-14 January 2015, with the tour moving to five locations throughout the city over the three days.
The tour saw the arrival of an ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 branded Double Decker bus, the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy and a host of cricket-themed entertainment and interactive activities for cricket fans, families and children.
Andrew Barr, Chief Minister of ACT along with other dignitaries of cricket playing countries launched the trophy tour in Canberra. Andy Bichel, a key member of the Australian cricket team during their successful 2003 Cricket World Cup campaign, also joined the tour in Canberra today to help promote the tournament.
FINACT represented India on the occasion and briefed about our activities FINACT T-20 tournament, Akram-Tedulkar Trophy and upcoming cricket events in Canberra with several dignitaries and media.
ACT Mini Cricket World Cup in February 2015
While the Cricket World Cup is being held in Australia and New Zealand early 2015, Federation of Indian Associations of ACT, ACT Cricket, ICC World Cup and ACT Sports are jointly organising the ACT Mini (Multicultural) Cricket World Cup.
The organisers are pleased to announce the tournament for the participation of players from ACT region and represented by various cricket playing nations. As a lead in to the three matches at Manuka. This tournament is possibly a once in a generation opportunity for our region and planning to arrange some lead matches at Manuka Oval. As such the organisers are keen to involve as many of your communities as possible. The tournament will be a showcase of the Multicultural and Indigenous communities in the ACT using cricket to bring them all together to celebrate the upcoming tournament in a fun and active environment.
The organisers are looking for expressions of interest from selected nationalities to participate. ACT Indigenous, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Ireland have accepted to provide the teams at this stage. The tournament will run from Sunday 1st February 2015 and will go for 3 to 4 weekends. The tournament will follow T20 cricket format.
Indian Community Harmony Day
The Federation of Indian Associations of ACT (FINACT) Inc. is the apex umbrella body of various member organisations representing Indian regional, linguistic, youth, women and senior citizens groups in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). FINACT’s main objective is to be the unified voice for the numerous and diverse Indian community groups in the ACT, as reflected in its slogan Coordination: Cooperation: Collaboration.
FINACT is organising a community harmony day on Saturday, 28 February 2015. Our aim is to facilitate a networking opportunity for various Indian community leaders with ACT Ministers and MLAs, Commonwealth MPs, Senators, Key Government Officials, High Commission of India and representatives of other community organisations in ACT. The event will be organised in an informal way that means meet and greet rather a talk fest.

Interactive Indian Dance Workshop
India Australia Cultural Exhibition on Sun 15 February
In the interest of developing better cultural understanding between India and Australia, a team of motivated Australians and persons of Indian origin have come forward with the idea of staging an exhibition on India-Australia Cultural Connections on Sunday, 15th February, 2015, as part of the annual National Multicultural Festival.
The exhibition will focus on showcasing various linkages between India and Australia. The exhibition coverage will include anthropological, historical, social, cultural, diplomatic, tourism, sporting and to some extent business links between the two countries.
We seek community help and some artists/painters/photographers/volunteers who may assist.
