Message from ACT Chief Minister, the Hon Andrew Barr MLA
On behalf of the ACT Government, I congratulate the Federation of Indian Associations of the ACT on your success with the fifth annual T-20 Cricket Tournament.
Cricket is one of the many shared pastimes linking India and Australia and it has been wonderful to see the passions and excitement on the pitch in this tournament over the past few weeks. Each of the teams should be proud of their achievements.
Indian culture is a rich and important part of Canberra and the Federation plays a vital role in developing events that bring people together. Your passionate advocating for a more inclusive city makes Canberra a better place to live. Canberra is a meeting place for people from all cultures and it is fantastic to see events such as this T-20 tournament bringing people together.
Thank you to all who have made this tournament possible. It takes a lot of ha~d work and considerable effort to plan a successful tournament like this and it is great to see it pay off. Good luck to those playing in the final and may the best team win.

Congratulations to the Federation of Indian Associations of ACT (FINACT) on yet another successful Westpac FINACT T-20 Cricket Tournament over the past few weeks. This tournament brings together passionate and diverse communities from across Canberra and it’s great to see all the matches played in such a fine competitive spirit. Whatever your result, you’ve been able to put rivalries aside after the final ball has been bowled.
FINACT brings together many groups from across Canberra and it’s clear that one of the many aspects that bind all of these groups together is cricket.
FINACT plays a significant role in representing the Indian communities across Canberra, particularly in the Gungahlin region. I have worked with many of the FINACT groups and look forward to continue to work with you in Yerrabi and the wider community over the coming years.
Congratulations again to everyone involved on such a successful event.

It is an honour to congratulate the organisers, participants and supporters involved in the successful 2016 Westpac–FINACT T20 cricket tournament.
There are many cultural, historical and institutional ties that link Australia and India. Of course, the common love of cricket is a strong bond that unite us.
Growing up, I enjoyed watching players such as Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Now, the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are leading a new generation of talented Indian cricketers. Not only have these people been extraordinary players, but they have also been great ambassadors for the sport and for India.
The Westpac–FINACT T20 cricket tournament brings together Indian cricketers in Canberra, with 13 teams competing in this year’s tournament. Just as international cricket unites people across the world, local cricket unites our Canberra community.
I wish the best of luck to the tournament finalists, Karnataka Bulldozers and BJSM PK XI.
The success of this tournament is a credit to everyone involved. Once again, I congratulate the organisers, players, umpires and sponsors for hosting and taking part in the tournament.
Sincerely,
Alistair Coe MLA

Message from Gai Brodtmann MP
I write to wish the Federation of Indian Associations of the ACT every success for this year’s fourth annual T-20 cricket tournament.
This is one of the rare years where both Australia and India have sat atop the ICC Test Team Rankings. The result belies a level of performance that is testament to our mutual passion for the sport and the spirit in which it is played.
It is through events like the T-20 tournament, as well as the Diwali Festival of Lights and the Multicultural Festival, that Canberra’s active Indian community can continue to be celebrated and to flourish.
I wish the tournament organisers the best of luck for another successful event and offer my congratulations to everyone involved.

Message from Elizabeth Kikkert MLA
A passion for cricket is one of the many things that India and Australia have in common, and so it brings me great pleasure to extend congratulations to my good friend Amardeep Singh and his associates from the Federation of Indian Associations of ACT (FINACT) who organised the 2016 Westpac FINACT T20 Cricket Tournament, as well as my congratulations to those who participated and to all those who showed up to cheer the players on.
The Indian associations in Canberra are wonderfully rich and varied, reflecting the cultural, historical, religious and intellectual diversity of India itself, but I have no doubt that this very successful tournament has helped to foster greater unity amongst the territory’s Indian communities – and between these communities and others in our beautifully multicultural city.
I extend my best wishes to PK XI and the Karnataka Bulldozers, the tournament finalists.
Your passion and competitive spirit are an inspiration. Good luck to all the players for Sunday’s final – and to FINACT for many more successful cricket tournaments in future.
Yours sincerely,
Elizabeth Kikkert MLA

FINACT thanks and wishes all the best to Nic Manikis
Nic Manikis has been a great strength and assistance for the multicultural communities in ACT. His retirement will certainly create a vacuum. FINACT salutes and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
"The wildly successful National Multicultural Festival, which he inaugurated in 1997, is definitely his most high profile achievement, having grown from two trestle tables at CIT in Reid into a huge event that attracted 280,000 revellers this year with 4500 volunteers, 463 stalls and nine stages."
Nic was always available for help, contribute or grace the event with much enthusiasm and understanding of the occasion. Multicultural community will miss you....
